Cadillac Escalade Used Transmissions
Escalade transmissions come straight out of the GM full-size truck pool, which is the good news: a correctly coded Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban or Yukon Denali unit of the same generation fits. What is specific to the Escalade is that it almost always took the heavier option for its year, so the unit you need is usually the 6L90 rather than the 6L80, or the 4L80E rather than the 4L60E. Our listings cover the Escalade, ESV and EXT together, since the feed names them as one family.
Cadillac Escalade Used Transmissions — transmission options by generation
| Years | Transmission | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1999–2000 (GMT400) | 4L60E | 4-speed auto | First Escalade — a rebadged Yukon Denali |
| 2002–2006 (GMT800) | 4L60E / 4L65E | 4-speed auto | Behind the 5.3 and the 6.0 |
| 2002–2006 (GMT800) | 4L80E | 4-speed auto | opt MT1 — ESV and EXT |
| 2007–2014 (GMT900) | 6L80 | 6-speed auto | opt MYC |
| 2007–2014 (GMT900) | 6L90 | 6-speed auto | opt MYD — behind the 6.2 L92, the common one |
| 2009–2013 (GMT900) | Two-Mode Hybrid EVT | electrically variable | Hybrid only — a dedicated part, not a 6L80 |
| 2015–2020 (K2XX) | 8L90 | 8-speed auto | opt M5U — behind the 6.2 L86 |
| 2021–current (T1XX) | 10L80 | 10-speed auto | opt MQE — behind the 6.2 L87 and the 3.0 Duramax |
How to pick the right one
Read the RPO code off the glovebox or door-jamb sticker and give it to us with the model year. On the 2007–2014 trucks the 6L80 and 6L90 look alike from outside and differ in capacity and internals, and the Escalade mostly ran the 6L90 — fitting a 6L80 behind a 6.2 is asking it to do a job it was not rated for. Then tell us two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, because the tailhousing and transfer case adapter differ, and say whether the vehicle is a standard Escalade, an ESV or an EXT. If it is a 2009–2013 Hybrid, the Two-Mode unit is a dedicated part and no conventional automatic will replace it.
What usually fails on these transmissions
The 6L80 and 6L90 rarely fail outright but both develop torque converter shudder as the fluid degrades — a light-throttle vibration around 35 to 45 mph that most owners first read as a misfire. Caught early it is a fluid and converter job rather than a transmission. The 8L90 had a documented shift judder that GM addressed with a revised fluid and a recalibration, so a rough-shifting one may need a reflash rather than a replacement. On the older 4L60E, the 3-4 clutch pack and the sun gear shell are what go, and in a vehicle this heavy they go sooner than in a half-ton truck. Every unit we list is pressure tested with the solenoid readings recorded.
What ships with every unit
- Pressure tested with the solenoid readings recorded, and the fluid condition inspected and reported.
- Fitment matched — send us the model year, engine, drivetrain and the RPO option code or ID tag and we confirm the part before the order ships.
- Written warranty on every transmission, with labour coverage available.
- Free freight anywhere in the lower 48, crated on a pallet to a commercial address or a terminal.
A correctly coded Suburban or Silverado unit of the same generation also fits. Replacing the engine at the same time: see our Escalade used engines. Full terms are in the transmission warranty policy, and the complete catalogue is at used transmissions.
Cadillac Escalade used transmissions - frequently asked questions
Which transmissions did the Cadillac Escalade use?
Across 1999 to today the Cadillac Escalade was built with 4L60E, 4L60E / 4L65E, 4L80E, 6L80, 6L90, Two-Mode Hybrid EVT, 8L90 and 10L80. The table above lists which one belongs to each generation, with the transmission designation and option code that identifies it.
How do I identify the right transmission for my Cadillac Escalade?
Four things decide it: model year, engine, drivetrain, and the option or RPO code. That code is the one most people do not have to hand and the one that settles it - on a GM vehicle it is on the glovebox or door-jamb sticker, on a Chrysler it is on the build sheet, and on a Ford it is on a tag on the case. Send us the VIN and the code and we confirm the unit before anything ships.
Will a transmission from a different year fit my Cadillac Escalade?
Read the RPO code off the glovebox or door-jamb sticker and give it to us with the model year. On the 2007–2014 trucks the 6L80 and 6L90 look alike from outside and differ in capacity and internals, and the Escalade mostly ran the 6L90 — fitting a 6L80 behind a 6.2 is asking it to do a job it was not rated for.

What comes with a used Cadillac Escalade transmission?
Every transmission is pressure tested with the solenoid readings recorded and the test sheet ships in the box. The unit is matched to your VIN and option code before the order goes out, carries a written warranty with labour coverage available, and freight is free anywhere in the lower 48.
