Chevrolet Avalanche Used Transmissions
These are transmissions for the Chevrolet Avalanche, 2002 to 2013, in both the 1500 half-ton and the 2500 three-quarter-ton. As with the engines, the 2500 listings stop at 2006 because that model was only built for the first generation. The 1500 carries on to 2013.
Every listing in this group is an automatic — the Avalanche was never offered with a manual. The listings divide by model, by two-wheel or four-wheel drive, from 2007 by engine, and for 2008 by the transmission's own identification code.

| Years listed | Model | Engine | Driveline | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| 2007–2008 | 1500 | 5.3L | 4x2 and 4x4 | Engine stated from 2007 |
| 2007–2008 | 1500 | 6.0L | 4x2 and 4x4 | Separate from the 5.3 |
| 2008 | 1500 | 5.3L | 4x2: ID CLD or LFD | Match the ID tag on your unit |
| 2008 | 1500 | 5.3L | 4x4: ID AFM, KLD, KND or LND | Four codes in one year |
| 2009–2013 | 1500 | — | 4x2 and 4x4 | Listed by driveline |
How to pick the right one
Begin with the model, because the 2500 uses a heavier unit than the 1500 and the two are not interchangeable. Then the driveline, which changes the tailhousing and output. From 2007 the listings also state the engine, so match the 5.3 or 6.0 as well. The year that needs the most care is 2008, where six identification codes appear across two drivelines — CLD and LFD on two-wheel drive, and AFM, KLD, KND and LND on four-wheel drive. Those are codes stamped on the transmission case, so for a 2008 truck read the tag on the unit you are taking out rather than ordering on year and engine alone. One of the 2008 codes reads AFM, which is a transmission identification tag and not a reference to the engine's cylinder deactivation system, so do not treat the two as the same thing.
What usually goes wrong on these transmissions
The four-speed automatics behind these V8s are well understood. The common failure is a slip or a loss of the upper gears, which on this family generally means a worn clutch pack or a cracked reaction sun shell. A shudder at light throttle that comes and goes is more often the torque converter clutch, and that can be fluid related rather than mechanical. Before buying a replacement, rule out a failed shift solenoid, low or burnt fluid and a wiring fault at the case connector, because all three mimic a dying transmission at a fraction of the cost. The heavier unit in the 2500 fails less often than the 1500's, but the same diagnostic order applies. Each listing states its condition and the mileage options.

Chevrolet Avalanche used transmissions — frequently asked questions
Was the Chevrolet Avalanche available with a manual transmission?
No. Every transmission listed for the Avalanche across 2002 to 2013 is an automatic, which matches how the truck was built.
Does an Avalanche 2500 transmission fit a 1500?
No. The 2500 was a three-quarter-ton truck with a heavier-duty unit behind the 8.1 litre V8. The 1500 and 2500 listings are kept separate for that reason, and the 2500 only exists up to 2006.
What do the 2008 codes CLD, LFD, AFM, KLD, KND and LND mean?
They are transmission identification codes stamped on the case. CLD and LFD are two-wheel-drive units; AFM, KLD, KND and LND are four-wheel-drive. For a 2008 truck the year and engine do not narrow it far enough, so read the tag on your own transmission. Note that the AFM code here is an identification tag, not the engine's cylinder deactivation system.
Why do the pre-2007 listings not state an engine?
On the first-generation 1500 the listings are divided by driveline rather than by engine, because that generation used one engine in the 1500. From 2007 the listings state the 5.3 or the 6.0 because both were offered.
What comes with a used Chevrolet Avalanche transmission?
Each listing states its condition and its mileage options. Fitment is matched to your VIN before the order goes out, every unit carries a written warranty of 6 months, extendable to 3 years, parts only, and freight is free anywhere in the lower 48.
