Chevy Camaro Used Transmissions
Camaro transmissions are bought as often for a build as for a repair, so interchange is the real question. Three eras: the third and fourth-generation cars with the 700R4 and 4L60E or a T-5 and T-56; the fifth generation with the 6L50 and 6L80; and the sixth with the 8L45 and 8L90. The manuals are separate parts throughout and the bellhousing pattern follows the engine family, not the car.

How to pick the right one
Generation, engine and automatic or manual. The 4L60E to 6L50 jump at 2010 and the 6L80 to 8L90 jump at 2016 are both absolute. Within one generation, the 6L50 behind the V6 and the 6L80 behind the V8 are different units, as are the 8L45 and 8L90. On manuals, the bellhousing bolt pattern follows the engine family — a T-5 from a small-block car will not bolt to an LS without an adapter. If the car is a ZL1 or an SS, the Tremec unit is a dedicated part.
What usually fails on these transmissions
The 4L60E is the one most often replaced: the 3-4 clutch pack burns, then the sun gear shell splits, and the car loses third and fourth. It is a known limitation behind an LT1 or LS1 in a car driven hard. The 6L80 rarely fails outright but develops torque converter shudder as the fluid degrades, which most owners first read as a misfire at light throttle. On the 8L45 and 8L90, the complaint is shift quality rather than failure and GM issued revised fluid and recalibrations. Every unit here is pressure tested with the solenoid readings recorded.
What ships with every unit
- Pressure tested with the solenoid readings recorded, and the fluid condition inspected and reported.
- Fitment matched — send us the model year, engine, drivetrain and the RPO option code or ID tag and we confirm the part before the order ships.
- Written warranty on every transmission, with labour coverage available.
- Free freight anywhere in the lower 48, crated on a pallet to a commercial address or a terminal.

Chevy Camaro used transmissions - frequently asked questions
Which transmissions did the Chevy Camaro use?
Across 1990 to 2024 the Chevy Camaro was built with 700R4 / 4L60, Borg-Warner T-5, 4L60E, T-56, 6L50, 6L80, Aisin AY6 / TR-6060, 8L45 and 8L90. The table above lists which one belongs to each generation, with the transmission designation and option code that identifies it.
How do I identify the right transmission for my Chevy Camaro?
Four things decide it: model year, engine, drivetrain, and the option or RPO code. That code is the one most people do not have to hand and the one that settles it - on a GM vehicle it is on the glovebox or door-jamb sticker, on a Chrysler it is on the build sheet, and on a Ford it is on a tag on the case. Send us the VIN and the code and we confirm the unit before anything ships.
Will a transmission from a different year fit my Chevy Camaro?
Generation, engine and automatic or manual. The 4L60E to 6L50 jump at 2010 and the 6L80 to 8L90 jump at 2016 are both absolute.
