Chrysler 300 & 300M Used Engines
Two different cars share this page, and it is worth being clear which one you have. The 300M of 1999–2004 was a front-drive LH-platform car with a single engine, the 3.5L EGG V6. The 300 that replaced it in 2005 was a rear-drive LX car that shared its architecture with the Charger and the Magnum, and it had the full Chrysler engine range from the 2.7L to the 6.1L SRT HEMI. Nothing interchanges between the two.

How to pick the right one
Say 300M or 300, then give us the 8th VIN digit. On the 300, 2011 is the hard line: the 2.7L and 3.5L were both replaced by the 3.6L Pentastar and none of the three interchange. On any HEMI, confirm whether the donor car ran the Multi-Displacement System, because the lifters, the camshaft and the oil control valve differ and the engine will not run correctly on the wrong calibration. All-wheel-drive 300s use a different oil pan and front accessory layout, so match the drive configuration.
What usually fails on these engines
The 2.7L EER is the one to avoid if you have a choice: a water pump driven off the timing chain inside the engine means that when it fails, coolant enters the oil, and the design was intolerant of extended oil change intervals, so sludged examples are common. On the 5.7L HEMI, MDS lifter collapse and the camshaft damage that follows is the dominant failure, usually announced by a tick that becomes a misfire. The 3.6L Pentastar had a left-bank cylinder head defect on 2011–2013 engines; we check the head casting number on every early one.
