Chrysler Used Transmissions
Chrysler automatics fall into two worlds and knowing which one your car sits in is the whole job. Front-drive cars — the minivans, Sebring, Cirrus, Pacifica, 200 — run the transverse 41TE family and its successors, the 62TE and the 948TE nine-speed. Rear-drive cars — the 300, 300M and Concorde — run the 42LE, the 42RLE, the Mercedes-derived W5A580 and, from 2012, the ZF 8HP. Nothing crosses between the two. Dodge and Jeep units of the same year are frequently the same part, which widens the pool considerably.

How to pick the right one
Front-drive or rear-drive first, because that decides everything else. Then the model year and the engine: on a 300 the 42RLE sits behind the V6 and the W5A580 behind the HEMI, and from 2012 the ZF 8HP45 and 8HP70 split the same way. On the front-drive cars the 41TE to 62TE change at 2007 and the 62TE to 948TE change at 2017 are both absolute. If the car is all-wheel drive, say so — the 41AE carries a different output and transfer unit from the 41TE. Most of our listings carry the option code from the build sheet; give it to us with the VIN and we match the unit before anything ships.
Before you replace anything — read this first
This is the single most useful thing we can tell a Chrysler owner. A car with a 42RLE or another RE-series automatic that is stuck in second gear, will not shift up, and has no reverse is usually not a dead transmission. It is almost always the governor pressure solenoid and the governor pressure transducer — two parts that together cost very little next to a transmission, and a fault the car reports as a limp-mode condition. Have those checked before you buy anything from us. On the 41TE family, the same symptom is most often the solenoid pack, an input or output speed sensor, or the transmission control relay. On the 62TE the usual item is the solenoid body, and on the ZF 8HP a harsh shift frequently clears with a fluid change and a software update rather than a unit. We would rather you fixed a sensor than bought a transmission you did not need.
What usually fails on these transmissions
The 41TE earned its reputation honestly — the original Ultradrive was fragile, and it is sensitive to fluid: it needs ATF+4 and nothing else, because the friction characteristic of generic fluid causes the shudder most owners mistake for a failing torque converter. Later builds are substantially better. The 42LE is the stronger of the early units. The W5A580 is a Mercedes design and genuinely durable; what fails is the conductor plate and the 13-pin connector, which leaks fluid up the wiring loom. The 62TE is reliable and its known item is the solenoid body. Every unit we list is pressure tested with the solenoid readings recorded and the fluid inspected before it goes on the site.

Chrysler used transmissions - frequently asked questions
Which transmissions did Chrysler use?
Front-drive cars (the minivans, Sebring, Cirrus, Pacifica and 200) run the transverse 41TE and its successors, the 62TE six-speed and the 948TE nine-speed. Rear-drive cars (the 300, 300M and Concorde) run the 42LE, the 42RLE, the Mercedes-derived W5A580 and, from 2012, the ZF 8HP. Nothing crosses between the two families.
How do I identify the right Chrysler transmission?

My Chrysler is stuck in second gear with no reverse. Do I need a transmission?
