Dodge Caravan Used Transmissions
Caravan transmissions come down to two units across thirty years: the 41TE four-speed, which Chrysler first sold as the A604 Ultradrive, and the 62TE six-speed that replaced it in 2008. The 41TE has a reputation it only half deserves — a great many of the ones declared dead were a solenoid pack or a speed sensor, and that is worth knowing before you order a whole transmission.

How to pick the right one
Model year, engine and drivetrain. The 41TE to 62TE change at 2008 is absolute. On all-wheel-drive vans the 41AE carries a different output and transfer arrangement and will not interchange with the front-drive unit. The 41TE was revised several times across its life, so give us the model year rather than just the name — a later solenoid pack and controller are materially better than an early one.
What usually fails on these transmissions
This is the important part. On the 41TE, the most common cause of a van that will not shift or that drops into limp mode in second gear is the solenoid pack, or one of the input and output speed sensors, or the transmission control relay — none of which is a transmission. Have those checked before you buy anything. Where the unit has genuinely failed it is the front planetary and the 2-4 clutch. The 62TE is the better transmission and when it comes in it is usually the solenoid pack or the pump. We pressure test every unit and report the solenoid readings so you can see what you are getting.
What ships with every unit
- Pressure tested with the solenoid readings recorded, and the fluid condition inspected and reported.
- Fitment matched — send us the model year, engine, drivetrain and the RPO option code or ID tag and we confirm the part before the order ships.
- Written warranty on every transmission, with labour coverage available.
- Free freight anywhere in the lower 48, crated on a pallet to a commercial address or a terminal.

Dodge Caravan used transmissions - frequently asked questions
Which transmissions did the Dodge Caravan use?
Across 1991 to 2020 the Dodge Caravan was built with A604 (41TE), A413 / 31TH, 41TE, 41AE and 62TE. The table above lists which one belongs to each generation, with the transmission designation and option code that identifies it.
How do I identify the right transmission for my Dodge Caravan?
Four things decide it: model year, engine, drivetrain, and the option or RPO code. That code is the one most people do not have to hand and the one that settles it - on a GM vehicle it is on the glovebox or door-jamb sticker, on a Chrysler it is on the build sheet, and on a Ford it is on a tag on the case. Send us the VIN and the code and we confirm the unit before anything ships.
Will a transmission from a different year fit my Dodge Caravan?
