Edge engines split at 2015, when Ford moved the car to the CD4 platform and changed the whole range. The 2007-2014 Edge ran the 3.5 Duratec V6 with the 3.7 in the Sport, and added the 2.0 EcoBoost four for 2012. The 2015-onward car runs the 2.0 EcoBoost as the base engine, the 3.5 Ti-VCT V6 through 2018 and the 2.7 EcoBoost twin-turbo in the Sport and ST. Lincoln MKX listings are the same engines, so they widen the pool.

What usually fails on these engines
On the 3.5 and 3.7 Duratec the water pump is the thing to know about: it is internal, driven off the timing chain, and when its seal fails it puts coolant straight into the oil rather than onto the ground. Any Edge with milky oil or an unexplained coolant loss should be checked there before the block is condemned. On the 2.0 EcoBoost the known items are carbon on the intake valves, which is inherent to a direct-injection engine, and coolant intrusion into the cylinder on the 2013-2018 build range, which Ford addressed with a revised head and a class action followed.
