Ford F-350 Used Transmissions
The F-350 takes the same transmission range as the F-250, but the duty cycle is harder and that changes what you should look for in a used unit. A far higher share of these trucks tow at or near capacity, and a transmission that has cooked its fluid once will not last whatever the odometer says. Fluid condition and a pressure test matter more here than mileage, and both are on every unit we list.

How to pick the right one
Model year, fuel type, drivetrain — and on the F-350 also tell us whether the truck is a pickup or a chassis cab, because the feed splits those and the tailhousing and output can differ. The gasoline and diesel versions of the same unit are not interchangeable: different torque converter, different bellhousing pattern and in some years a different valve body calibration. Dual-rear-wheel trucks are often geared differently, so the axle ratio is worth giving us as well.
What usually fails on these transmissions
On the E4OD and 4R100 it is the overdrive planetary and the converter, nearly always after towing on original fluid. The 5R110W is strong and usually arrives with a solenoid body or pressure switch fault rather than a failed gear train, which is a much cheaper fix than a replacement — worth diagnosing before you buy. The 6R140 is the most durable automatic Ford has built for this application. Whatever the unit, if the fluid went dark the clutches tell the story, and that is exactly what we inspect for.
What ships with every unit
- Pressure tested with the solenoid readings recorded, and the fluid condition inspected and reported.
- Fitment matched — send us the model year, engine, drivetrain and the RPO option code or ID tag and we confirm the part before the order ships.
- Written warranty on every transmission, with labour coverage available.
- Free freight anywhere in the lower 48, crated on a pallet to a commercial address or a terminal.
Replacing the engine too? See our F-350 used engines. Full terms are in the transmission warranty policy, and the complete catalogue is at used transmissions.
Ford F-350 used transmissions - frequently asked questions
Which transmissions did the Ford F-350 use?
Across 1990 to today the Ford F-350 was built with C6 / E4OD, ZF S5-42 / S5-47, 4R100, ZF S6-650, 5R110W TorqShift, 6R140 TorqShift and 10R140 TorqShift. The table above lists which one belongs to each generation, with the transmission designation and option code that identifies it.
How do I identify the right transmission for my Ford F-350?
Four things decide it: model year, engine, drivetrain, and the option or RPO code. That code is the one most people do not have to hand and the one that settles it - on a GM vehicle it is on the glovebox or door-jamb sticker, on a Chrysler it is on the build sheet, and on a Ford it is on a tag on the case. Send us the VIN and the code and we confirm the unit before anything ships.
Will a transmission from a different year fit my Ford F-350?
Model year, fuel type, drivetrain — and on the F-350 also tell us whether the truck is a pickup or a chassis cab, because the feed splits those and the tailhousing and output can differ. The gasoline and diesel versions of the same unit are not interchangeable: different torque converter, different bellhousing pattern and in some years a different valve body calibration.

What comes with a used Ford F-350 transmission?
Every transmission is pressure tested with the solenoid readings recorded and the test sheet ships in the box. The unit is matched to your VIN and option code before the order goes out, carries a written warranty with labour coverage available, and freight is free anywhere in the lower 48.
