Hyundai Elantra Used Transmissions
Elantra transmissions follow the engine generations closely, which makes them easier to match than most — four-speed automatics through 2010, the A6GF1 six-speed from 2011, and from 2021 a continuously variable IVT. The two to be careful with are the dual-clutch D7UF1 in the 2017–2020 Eco and the N Line, which is a dedicated part, and the IVT, which is not a conventional automatic at all.

How to pick the right one
Generation and engine. The four-speed to six-speed change at 2011 is absolute, and so is the six-speed to IVT change at 2021. Inside the 2017–2020 range, check whether the car is an Eco — the 1.4 Kappa turbo came with the D7UF1 dual clutch, which shares nothing with the A6GF1 and needs its own control module. On older cars tell us automatic or manual, because the Beta-era manual is a separate part and often a cheaper fix than people expect.
What usually fails on these transmissions
On the four-speed automatics the usual items are the valve body and the shift solenoids, which produce harsh or missed shifts rather than a dead transmission — worth diagnosing before you buy a whole unit. The A6GF1 is a reasonable transmission and what we see is solenoid and valve body wear on neglected fluid. The D7UF1 dual clutch is the one with a pattern: the clutch actuator and the control module fail, which gives a shudder from a stop and then a refusal to engage, and Hyundai issued software updates for it. On the IVT, as on any CVT, the fluid interval is what decides its life.
What ships with every unit
- Pressure tested with the solenoid readings recorded, and the fluid condition inspected and reported.
- Fitment matched — send us the model year, engine, drivetrain and the RPO option code or ID tag and we confirm the part before the order ships.
- Written warranty on every transmission, with labour coverage available.
- Free freight anywhere in the lower 48, crated on a pallet to a commercial address or a terminal.

Hyundai Elantra used transmissions - frequently asked questions
Which transmissions did the Hyundai Elantra use?
Across 1996 to today the Hyundai Elantra was built with F4A42, 5-speed manual, A4AF3, A4CF1 / A4CF2, A6GF1, 6-speed manual, D7UF1, IVT and 7-speed dual clutch. The table above lists which one belongs to each generation, with the transmission designation and option code that identifies it.
How do I identify the right transmission for my Hyundai Elantra?
Four things decide it: model year, engine, drivetrain, and the option or RPO code. That code is the one most people do not have to hand and the one that settles it - on a GM vehicle it is on the glovebox or door-jamb sticker, on a Chrysler it is on the build sheet, and on a Ford it is on a tag on the case. Send us the VIN and the code and we confirm the unit before anything ships.
Will a transmission from a different year fit my Hyundai Elantra?
Generation and engine. The four-speed to six-speed change at 2011 is absolute, and so is the six-speed to IVT change at 2021.

What comes with a used Hyundai Elantra transmission?
Every transmission is pressure tested with the solenoid readings recorded and the test sheet ships in the box. The unit is matched to your VIN and option code before the order goes out, carries a written warranty with labour coverage available, and freight is free anywhere in the lower 48.
