Ford E350 Used Transmissions
These are automatic transmissions for the Ford E350, the one-ton van in the family Ford sold as the Econoline and later badged E-Series, with passenger versions carried as the Club Wagon. If you were searching for a Mercedes-Benz E350, this is not that vehicle — everything here is for the Ford van. All units listed are automatics, and the range runs from 2000 to 2019.
This is the most complicated transmission listing in the E-Series family, and it is worth understanding why before you order. Six gearbox families appear, the engine pairing is given as a cylinder-and-cubic-inch pair, and from 2005 the listings are split by wheelbase as well. That last dimension does not exist on the lighter vans and it is the single most common reason an E350 gearbox arrives and will not go in: the driveshaft length and the crossmember position change with the wheelbase, so a 138-inch unit is not a 176-inch unit even when the family, the engine and the model year all match.
Ford E350 Econoline used transmissions — options by year
| Years listed | Transmission | Engine it was built behind | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2000–2004 | 4R100 | 8-330 (5.4L), 10-415 (6.8L), 8-445 (7.3L diesel) | Heavy-duty four speed |
| 2001–2003 | 4R70W | 8-330 (5.4L) | Four speed, the lighter case |
| 2004 | 4R75W | 8-330 (5.4L) | One year only, ID 4C2P-DA |
| 2004 | TorqShift five speed | 8-366 (6.0L diesel) | IDs 4C3P-JB and 4C3P-KB |
| 2005–2016 | 5R110W TorqShift | 8-330 (5.4L), 10-415 (6.8L), 8-366 (6.0L diesel) | Five speed — listed by wheelbase |
| 2005–2015 | 4R75E | 8-330 (5.4L) | Four speed with electronic control |
| 2016–2019 | 6R140 | 10-415 (6.8L) and later listings by wheelbase | Six speed — the last unit |
The engine pairing codes are worth decoding once: 8-330 is the 5.4 litre V8, 10-415 is the 6.8 litre V10, 8-445 is the 7.3 litre Power Stroke diesel and 8-366 is the 6.0 litre Power Stroke diesel. The 7.3 pairing appears only behind the 4R100 and stops in 2003, which matches the engine listings.
How to pick the right one
Four things have to agree on this van, not three. The gearbox family, the engine it was built behind, the wheelbase, and the assembly ID on the tag.
Wheelbase is the one to settle first because it is the easiest to get wrong and the hardest to work around. From 2005 the 5R110W listings are divided into 138-inch, 158-inch and 176-inch versions, and from 2016 the 6R140 is listed the same way. The wheelbase is derivable from the VIN and is also measurable on the van — hub centre to hub centre — and it is worth checking rather than assuming, particularly on an extended-body van or a cutaway that has been rebodied.
After that, the engine pairing, then the ID code, which separates versions inside a single year. The 2009 listings split on build date at 11/30/08 and 12/01/08 across every engine and every wheelbase, with a different ID either side. The 2017 6R140 in 138-inch form splits again at 07/19/16 and 07/20/16. One further distinction appears on the 6.0 litre diesel units, which are listed as supplied without a PTO provision — if your van has a power take-off driving a body or a lift, that is a different specification and worth raising before you order. Send the VIN and we confirm the assembly code against your vehicle before the order ships.
What usually goes wrong on these transmissions
The 5R110W TorqShift is the strong one in this list and the reason these vans stayed in service as long as they did. It was built for the diesel and it holds up, so when one is replaced the cause is usually heat or contamination rather than a design weakness — a failed radiator cooler section mixing coolant into the fluid is a classic killer, and it destroys the gearbox from the inside in a few hundred miles. The solenoid body and the torque converter are its wear items.
The 4R100 is a durable case whose weak point is the torque converter and the overdrive planetary under sustained load. The 4R70W and 4R75E are the lighter four speeds and are the least suited to a loaded one-ton van: the forward clutch and intermediate band wear, showing as a slip or flare on the second-to-third shift, and on the 4R75E a solenoid pack or output shaft speed sensor fault can mimic mechanical wear exactly. Get codes read before buying. The 6R140 is a modern six speed with no comparable systemic weakness.
Across every family here the dominant cause of failure on a working E350 is heat. These vans tow and haul, and a silted cooler or a missing auxiliary cooler cooks the fluid and takes the friction material with it. If the unit coming out burned, flush the cooler and the lines before the replacement goes in, because the debris left in the circuit will take out the new one the same way. Every unit we list is listed as tested and ready to install.

Ford E350 used transmissions — frequently asked questions
Which automatic transmissions did the Ford E350 use?
The 4R100 from 2000 to 2004, the 4R70W from 2001 to 2003, a 4R75W and a five-speed TorqShift in 2004, the 5R110W TorqShift from 2005 to 2016, the 4R75E from 2005 to 2015 and the 6R140 six speed from 2016 to 2019. All are automatics.
Why does wheelbase matter when buying an E350 transmission?
Because it changes the part. From 2005 the 5R110W is listed in 138-inch, 158-inch and 176-inch versions, and the 6R140 is listed the same way from 2016. Driveshaft length and crossmember position follow the wheelbase, so a unit from a shorter or longer van will not install even when the family, engine and year match. It is the most common fitment error on this vehicle.
What do 8-330, 10-415, 8-445 and 8-366 mean?
They identify the engine the gearbox was built behind, as cylinder count and cubic inches. 8-330 is the 5.4 litre V8, 10-415 the 6.8 litre V10, 8-445 the 7.3 litre Power Stroke diesel and 8-366 the 6.0 litre Power Stroke diesel.
What is the PTO note on the diesel listings?
The 6.0 litre diesel units are listed as supplied without a power take-off provision. If your van drives a lift, a pump or a body accessory from a PTO on the gearbox, that is a different specification, so raise it before ordering rather than after the unit arrives.
What comes with a used Ford E350 transmission?
Each listing states its condition and its mileage options. Fitment is matched to your VIN before the order goes out, every unit carries a written warranty of 3 months on units up to and including model year 2000 and 6 months on 2001 and newer, extendable to 3 years, parts only, and freight is free anywhere in the lower 48.
